Carnival Cruises for Families

Carnival Cruise Line has been a leader in family-friendly cruises for decades, and its reputation is certainly well-earned. Carnival offers some of the most fun, easygoing voyages for travelers of every age -- and that certainly includes children and teenagers. If you’re arriving a day or so early, consider choosing an interesting departure port city you’d like to explore with your family as part of your overall vacation.
Best Cruise Booking Sites for Families
Unless you live close enough to drive to the cruise terminal, you need to make flight arrangements. Ideally, you should arrive a day before your cruise leaves so that you have plenty of time to get there on time and start your vacation feeling relaxed. A four day winter cruise from Miami to Grand Turk will warm you up enough to make it through the winter. Make the most of the time off with a five day cruise from Tampa to Cozumel and Grand Cayman. Get the whole crew on board for an eight day cruise on Carnival Horizon® featuring SkyRide®, Dr. Seuss Bookville™, and The Chef’s Table.

Carnival's standard cabins are more casual, with plenty of storage and colorful decor. The line does offer some of the largest standard cabins in the cruise industry. Another difference in these two ship sizes is tonnage (essentially, how big the ships are). Carnival's midsize ships range from 110,000 to 130,000 gross registered tonnage.

Space Cruisers
Our fun cruises for families include amazing destinations such as the Great Barrier Reef, the pristine beaches of the South Pacific, and the friendly people of Fiji. Over at Circle "C," teens ages 12 to 14 have a hangout spot that's all their own with counselor-led activities like dance parties, games and outdoor movies. Older teens ages 15 to 17 head to Club O2 to enjoy karaoke sessions, movies and video games with their peers.

On Disney Cruise Line, the activities are much more subdued but still exciting. Each ship has large outdoor pools, and most have a raft ride or slide. One of the biggest differences between Carnival Cruise Line and Disney Cruise Line is the price of a sailing.
Disney Cruise Line vs. Carnival: Which family-friendly cruise line should you choose?
Couples looking for rest and relaxation and seniors wishing to play bingo or sip martinis can find their happy place on either Carnival or Disney. Waterworks, Carnival’s onboard water park features spiraling slides, side-by-side race slides or a swirling DrainPipe slide, depending on which ship you are aboard. Carnival Vista has the first IMAX Theatre at sea, with a three-deck screen and 182 seats and the new SkyRide, which is like a bike high in the sky that zips over the ship’s decks and over the sea. Select ships, including Carnival Freedom and Carnival Liberty, feature the Seaside Theater — an outdoor movie shown on a large screen by the pool.

Still, there are lots of differences between the lines, starting with price. Here, we compare Disney Cruise Line and Carnival to see what they have in common and what they don't, so you can figure out the best cruise for you. Carnival Celebration® wouldn’t be complete without a place for you to settle in and recharge after a long day’s fun. Carnival Celebration® has six Zones to explore, and each gets you deep into fun. Still, when it comes to feeling the jam, there are some significant differences between the three ships in our comparison. The Carnival Dream has something for everyone, so expect the whole family to love this cruise.
Cruising with a Large Family
I always worry about over-packing, especially since I am usually traveling with teenage girls. It’s a lot less stressful to go on vacation when you have less to haul around. Warm destinations require less bulky clothing, and with the exception of one or two dinners you don’t need to pack anything fancy. The girls and I ended up spending most of the cruise in our swimsuits and cover-ups.

For family dining options, head to Guy’s Burger Joint for juicy burgers or be tempted at Masala Tiger. Both cruise lines offer a wide range of cabin styles in various price ranges for all types of families, including windowless inside, ocean view, verandah (with a private balcony) and suite. Carnival and Disney offer connecting rooms and cabins that can sleep four or more. However, they vary in design and layout, with different specialty cabins and perks for the top categories of accommodations. The benefits don’t end there — your little girls and boys eat free in most onboard specialty restaurants and get a free evening of Night Owls babysitting service, so you can enjoy a little alone time. These Carnival ships have water parks, kids’ clubs and miniature golf courses.
After cruising aboard Carnival Ecstasy with my family last month, I’m excited to share a few tips to help with planning your family’s next cruise. Take your family on a holiday they’ll never forget with a Carnival family cruise holiday in 2023. Disney also takes guests to international destinations like the South Pacific, New Zealand and Australia. Both lines have sun-drenched itineraries that take passengers to the Bahamas and Caribbean, with seasonal sailings to the Mediterranean and Alaska.
On the flip side, Disney Wish doesn't have the adults-only district that the other four ships have. On those ships, lounges and bars are clustered together to create a true retreat with nighttime entertainment for adults. On Carnival's larger Excel-class ships, such as Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration, guests will find an abundance of amenities that aren't available on the smaller and older ships like Carnival Elation.
Disney's Dream-class ships are equal to Carnival's larger midsize ships at 130,000 gross tons, while the Triton class is larger at 144,000 gross tons. We call Carnival Celebration®'s onboard burger spot Guy’s Burger Joint™. We teamed up with Guy Fieri to design not just the burgers and fries, but to help bring in the kind of rustic atmosphere you’d find at a roadside burger shack somewhere off a coastal highway. All signs point to ambiance — and serious flavor — so try a burger dressed up the way Guy likes it, or take it off-roading… to the nearby topping bar, where you can make it your own.
A cup of coffee out there in the morning (or afternoon!) was perfection. My daughter loved to sit out there and read a book away from the mayhem her brother creates. Guests can also indulge in complimentary fast-food fare (burgers, chicken strips, etc.) at the buffet and casual pool deck venues. In 2024, the starting rate for a three-night Bahamas cruise is $189 per person on Carnival or $618 per person on Disney, both based on double occupancy.
